The Benefits of Pancreatic Cancer SOS
Our Pancreatic Cancer SOS group can provide a safe and welcoming space for individuals who are Newly Diagnosed Pancreatic Cancer Patients to process their feelings and emotions. In a support group, individuals can share their experiences with others who are going through similar situations. This can help to alleviate feelings of isolation and provide a sense of community and belonging.
In addition to emotional support, the Pancreatic Cancer SOS group can also provide practical information. Individuals who are currently undergoing treatment or who have survived PC can offer insight into what to expect throughout the treatment process. Caregivers can also benefit from hearing from survivors about how to best support their loved ones during this challenging time.
Coping with a New Pancreatic Cancer Diagnosis
Helping Newly Diagnosed Pancreatic Cancer Patients.
Receiving a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer (PC) can be a shocking and overwhelming experience. For many individuals, the diagnosis may come as a complete surprise, and the reality of the situation may take some time to sink in. The emotional toll of such a diagnosis can be immense, and it is not uncommon for newly diagnosed individuals to experience a range of feelings, including shock, disbelief, terror, sadness, and a sense of dread.
The journey ahead for those diagnosed with pancreatic cancer can be a challenging one, and it is important to have a support system in place to help navigate the various physical and emotional obstacles that may arise. One such support system is a pancreatic cancer support group.
Benefits of Our Meetings
Connect with other patients
Our meetings provide an opportunity for newly diagnosed patients to connect with others who have had similar experiences. This can be especially helpful for individuals who may feel isolated or alone in their cancer journey.
Share your story
We encourage attendees to share their stories and experiences with one another. This can be a powerful way to process emotions and gain insights into the cancer journey.
Receive support and resources
Our meetings provide access to a network of resources and support, including information about treatment options, clinical trials, and support groups.
Convenient virtual format
Our virtual format allows attendees to participate from the comfort of their own homes. This is especially beneficial for individuals who may have mobility issues or live far away from the meeting location.
Purpose of this Meeting
People who are newly diagnosed with pancreatic cancer (PC) may experience a mix of emotions including shock, disbelief, terror, sadness, and a sense of dread that can become overwhelming. Additionally, caregivers can hear from survivors about what to expect for their loved ones and how best to offer support.
Participants
Patients who are within one year of their diagnosis with PC and their families.
Additional Participants
The group will include people who are currently in treatment for PC or who living with or in “remission” from PC. These participants will act as “resource specialist” who can offer their experience in treatment to the newly diagnosed.
Screening
Resource specialist will need to be screened to ensure that understand their role as supportive (i.e., offering resources and information) and not prescriptive (i.e., telling participants they need to follow a prescribed path for treatment).
Moderators
One professional mental health clinician and one PC patient advocate.
